Insane Root is the Bristol theatre company that performs in unusual locations. It’s latest production is in a very special location; the ruined Temple Church. The medieval building was bombed during the Second World War but the towers and walls remain. It’s a stunning location for outdoor theatre.
The all-female/non-binary cast performs William Shakespeare’s Henry V and it’s a spectacular show. The performances are brilliant and the atmosphere in the haunting medieval surroundings adds a huge amount.
We saw an evening performance and it was a stunning experience as the day turned to night during the two hour play.
Hearing the cries of real birds flying overhead as the action took place was amazing. We loved the music and sounds created for the show and there’s a battle scene which will live long in our memories.
There are some amusing moments too and the range of accents delivered by the cast is impressive!
Henry V outdoor is highly recommended and we hope Temple Church gets used for many more theatre productions.
For refreshments, we highly recommend grabbing a pint from the nearby Kings Head pub run by Good Chemistry Brewing.
Henry V is at Temple Church in Bristol until 2 August.
